Fire Insurance vs Blessed Assurance

Last Week’s Sermon

Title: Fire Insurance vs Blessed Assurance (Jesus [Chuy] Manso)

Hang around church long enough and you will hear the invitation: Today’s the day to accept Jesus Christ. But, what stops many of us?

On one end, we can feel we have plenty of time left to make this decision. So why rush it? The answer: Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

On the other end, by coming to church, we can feel we are safe knowing Jesus is the Savior. Unfortunately, this is like fire insurance that cannot avoid the catastrophe. The loss will be incurred. Even worse, this insurance has always been bankrupted, for knowing Jesus does not save. Only accepting His call to “Follow Me,” can save. This is the only blessed assurance of an eternal life with God.

So, which will we pick, a bankrupted fire insurance or the true blessed assurance?

If you have any questions on what following Jesus entails, ask. Bring it up in conversation with the pastor, an elder, or any Christian that has already made this commitment. They can personally share how this decision changes everything.

Scriptural Text to Contemplate

James 2:19 - You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and deliver us from ourselves. For we often put off our most important decisions. We often avoid this, for we must come to Your light and be exposed. Thank you God for your patience and gentleness. Let Your Spirit teach us who Your Son is. Move us to follow behind Him. In His name we pray. Amen.
